Sales & Operations Trainee (On-site at our Reading office)
The Opportunity
We are looking for a Sales & Operations Trainee to join our team in Reading. We are a relatively small team, which means everyone has an important role to play and there are plenty of opportunities to learn about different areas of the business. This is an excellent opportunity for a school or college leaver who is looking to start their career in a business environment and is keen to learn, develop and take on responsibility. You don’t need previous sales or office experience. What matters most to us is your attitude. We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic, friendly, organised and willing to learn, with the confidence to speak to customers and colleagues. You will receive full training on our products, systems and processes and will gradually develop your knowledge and responsibilities across sales, customer service and business operations. Working closely with our Operations Manager and colleagues in the sales team, you will become an important part of the day-to-day running of the business.
Getting to Know Our Products
As part of your initial training, you will spend some time at our manufacturing facility in Calcot, Reading, working alongside our production team. This will give you the opportunity to learn first-hand what we manufacture, how our products are made and the care and expertise that goes into producing them. In particular, you will learn about the manufacture of lithographic printing blankets, one of our key products. We believe that having a genuine understanding of our products and manufacturing processes is an important part of developing into a successful member of our team. It will allow you to understand the challenges our customers face and, in time, give you the knowledge and confidence to provide informed advice. The factory environment is different from the office, and this part of the training involves manual work, including some lifting of heavier materials. You will therefore need to be comfortable with practical, hands-on work during this initial period.
What You Will Learn
As you develop in the role, you will gain experience in:
- Speaking to customers by telephone and email.
- Responding to customer enquiries and providing excellent customer service.
- Preparing and following up quotations.
- Processing customer orders from receipt through to despatch and invoicing.
- Purchasing and liaising with suppliers.
- Arranging deliveries and dealing with logistics.
- Maintaining customer and product information.
- Supporting marketing activities and customer communications.
- Contacting existing and lapsed customers and helping to develop new business.
- Working alongside our external sales team.
- Using business systems including Sage and CRM software.
- Understanding how different parts of a business work together.
- Developing your sales, communication, organisation and commercial skills.
As your confidence and knowledge grow, you will be given increasing responsibility and the opportunity to develop your role within the business.
About You
You may have recently completed your studies and be looking for an opportunity to start your career. You don’t need previous experience in sales, customer service or business administration. We will provide the training you need. We are looking for someone who:
- Is enthusiastic and keen to learn.
- Enjoys talking to and helping people.
- Is friendly, polite and confident when communicating with others.
- Has a positive attitude and is willing to get involved.
- Is organised and takes pride in doing things properly.
- Has good attention to detail.
- Is comfortable using computers and willing to learn new systems.
- Can work well as part of a small team.
- Is reliable and takes responsibility for their work.
- Is interested in developing a career within a business environment.
Good GCSEs or equivalent, particularly in English and Maths, would be an advantage, but we are more interested in your attitude and potential than your exam results.
Salary & Benefits
- Initially, £21,157.50 to £24,784.50 per annum, depending on age.
- 25 days holiday plus bank holidays.
- Full training on our products, systems and the industries we work with.
- Support and guidance as you develop your skills.
- Opportunities to take on increasing responsibility and progress within the business.
- Free on-site parking, bus stop nearby (by IKEA and Sainsbury’s).
Working Hours 37.5
- Monday to Thursday, 9:00am – 5:00pm; Friday 8;30am – 4.30pm.
- 30-minute lunch break.
- Office-based at our premises in Reading.
